Inspired by the use of thread, I decided to try and make something with waxed Irish linen threads. I recently expanded my stash of waxed linen so I had a rainbow to choose from! I ended up using a mix of teal and greens in four shades. Having some bright blue mixed in would have been more true to the inspiration, but I don't have any of that in my stash yet... next order!
I had lots of ideas of how to use the threads and at first thought I'd do more of a true tassel look with a cone of some sort... But then I changed my mind and decided on a simpler approach and just tied the strands around a jump ring in a big lark's head knot. For an extra punch of color I added a table cut Czech glass flower in avocado green. That has nothing to do with the inspiration, but I love the way they look with the colorful threads so I'm going to call artistic license on this one! I really wanted to something more geometric, but just didn't have anything that worked in my stash and no time to shop.
Beautiful! I love the fresh colors and the lines of the waxed linen. And the Czech beads are sweet.
ReplyDeleteIts a different take on the picture and I love the way you have photographed the piece
ReplyDeleteGood job on these! You need to make more now...
ReplyDeleteNicely done! The waxed linen thread is perfect for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteLove how the waxed linen falls from the earring, great work!
ReplyDeleteOh, these are just perfect! Love them! How do you do this :)? So simple, but beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Oksana! I just took several strands of waxed linen and tied a larks head knot around a jump ring and trimmed the threads as needed. Super easy!
DeleteVery nicely done and your bit of artistic license is somehow just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThese look great, love them xx
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love the colors and how the cord hangs...I really need to get brave and use some the cording....just not sure how to get it to knot and stay!!! Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veralynne! From my experience, waxed linen is pretty easy to get going with. Because the wax makes it a little sticky, the knots really stay pretty well and I haven't needed glue for the types of things that I've done. The downside is it's almost impossible to take out a knot if want/need to. Take the plunge!
DeleteSometimes the simplest designs are the most effective! I love the way your linen threads mimic the feel of those strings in the art. And there were plenty of colors to choose from so I am glad you picked the ones you liked! Thanks for playing along with me in the We're All Ears challenge! Enjoy the day. Erin
