30 Words: Ramona

How unexpected
to run into a childhood friend
in the middle of a strange city.
You don’t know me,
but I spent many hours
 in your company
 reading your stories.

The premise of 30 Word Thursday is simple... take a photo, write 30 words (no more, no less) and post it each Thursday.  This is a blog hop hosted by Erin Prais-Hintz over on her blog Treasures Found.  Click HERE to see her post for this week as well as links to everyone else's 30 Words.

This picture was taken last summer in Portland, Oregon.  It was actually a friend that I hadn't seen since childhood who told me that this park was just blocks from our hotel.  The fountain (which wasn't running that day) features several characters from the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary including Ramona, Henry, and Ribsy.  As a youth services librarian I had to stop and see it!

    1. It would have been even better if the fountain had been working but I'm still glad I got to see it!

  3. Even though I discovered Beverly Cleary's books as an adult, I do enjoy them and give them to my granddaughter to read.

    1. Yay! It makes my little librarian heart happy to hear people talk about sharing great books with the kids in their lives!

  4. That is a surprise! What a lovely park that must be for the kids who love Miss Cleary's books. And I didn't know you were a librarian. Learned something new! Thank you for joining in the 30 Words Challenge! Enjoy the day. Erin

    1. It was really cool to see her characters come to "life" at the park. One of my earliest chapter book memories is my Aunt Pat giving me a copy of Cleary's book "Socks."
